Rework - 10 September 2014
Odin has had part of his kit redesigned, to help him better fulfill his role as a Warrior. Many of his base stats have been adjusted.
The Allfather (Passive)
If an enemy dies in Odin's Ring of Spears, Odin permanently gains 5 physical power. This can stack up to 10 times.
Lunge
Odin lunges to his target location, doing 140/180/220/260/300 +40% of his physical power to all nearby enemies. Cooldown: 15/14/13/12/11s. Cost: 45/50/55/60/65.
Raven Shout
Odin summons a flock of Ravens that create a shield around him that blocks damage equal to 100/175/250/325/400 +50% of his Physical Power for 4s. When the shield expires it explodes outward, dealing damage to nearby enemies based on how much health it had remaining. If the shield is at full health, it deals an additional 25% bonus damage. The shield will not expire while Odin is using Lunge, and will detonate upon landing from Lunge. Cooldown: 15s. Cost: 50/55/60/65/70.
Gungnir's Might
Odin does a sweeping spear attack that hits twice dealing 35/50/65/80/95 +30% of his physical power as damage and slows enemies 40% for 2/2.2/2.4/2.6/2.8s on the first hit. Cooldown: 10s. Cost: 70.
Ring of Spears
Odin summons a wall of spears that blocks his and enemy movement, but allies may move freely through. It does not block attacks. Enemies inside the ring have their attack speed lowered by 20/30/40/50/60%, and have their healing reduced by 100%. Cooldown: 60s. Cost: 100.
The Allfather was another strong rework that led to slight overnerfing. We are reverting one of those nerfs to Gungnir’s Might’s base damage which should help his early clear and solo lane potential. Bastet, who was reworked at the same time, is also being considered for more significant changes in the future.
Gungnir's Might
Increased Pulse Damage from 20/40/60/80/100 to 25/45/65/85/105 per hit
(60/120/180/240/300 to 75/135/195/255/315 total, hits 3 up to 3 times)
The Allfather underwent a long series of nerfs after his rework. While they were deserved Odin has finally settled down and ended up a bit underwhelming. We discussed reverting one of his cooldowns, and the one that made sense was Gungnir’s Might. Skilled Odins can show their understanding of the runes and we don’t reintroduce the frustration surrounding his frequent Bird Bombs.
The Allfather has maintained very high metrics even through his last round of nerfs. This time we are focusing entirely on Odin's Cooldowns. This warrior can dish out a lot of damage and CC, but can also protect himself through shields and leaps. It is a common frustration when playing against Odin to nearly have him dead but then his Raven Shout and Lunge come off cooldown and he escapes again. These slight cooldown changes across his kit will give his opponents more room for counterplay.
Lunge
Increased cooldown from 15/14/13/12/11s to 16/15/14/13/12s.
Raven Shout
Increased cooldown from 15/14/13/12/11s to 16/15/14/13/12s.
A familiar sight in our new Bonus Balance format. Odin's rework gave him significantly more flexibility and strength and this strength has stayed through multiple adjustments. Raven Shout shield makes him difficult to fight against and contributes heavy burst when used in the bird bomb. We are toning this and Gungnir's Might's scaling by 10%, taking some of the edge off these abilities. Ring of Spears is more widely applicable and is now on the level of other ultimate abilities. A cooldown of 90s now feels right.
Raven Shout
Decreased Physical Power Scaling of Shield Health from 60% to 50%.
Gungnir's Might
Decreased Physical Power Scaling from Gungnir Throw Damage from 60% to 50%.
The Allfather has shown he is more than capable of wielding Runic Magic. While we made adjustments similar to Bastet in the PTS, Odin is still seeing a high level of success and frustration. Gungnir's Might provides strong cleave and engage power, while the punishment for leaving Ring of Spears is a hair too potent. We are toning these aspects down to help him feel more fair to fight.
Gungnir's Might
Decreased Pulse Damage from 25/45/65/85/105 to 20/40/60/80/100.
Decrease Gungnir Throw Damage from 80/130/180/230/280 to 60/110/160/210/260.
Ring of Spears
Decreased Damage dealt from leaving the ring from 140/210/280/350/420 to 120/190/260/330/400.
The Allfather is getting a rework fitting of the leader of the Norse pantheon. We focused on really highlighting his mastery of Runic Magic in a reworked Gungnir's Might where he finally gets to throw the named spear, Gungnir. In addition, his ultimate is gaining counterplay while punishing enemies who choose to cowardly flee over and through his ring of spears. These changes will allow Odin to have a higher depth to his play, a more consistent teamfight ultimate, and most importantly has kept his iconic Bird Bomb intact. For more detailed insight into this rework, how we approach reworks as a whole, and a deep dive into each ability check out the developer insight for Odin.
Gungnir's Might
This ability has been reworked.
Odin begins empowering Gungnir with Runic Magic, becoming immune to knockbacks. Every .7s Gungnir changes runes and Odin pulses out damage around him, slowing enemies for 2s. When Odin releases Gungnir it travels forward, damaging enemies and stopping on the first god hit. The first rune causes allies around Odin to gain Attack Speed for 3s. The second allows Gungnir to home onto enemy gods. The last rune allows Gungnir to stun.
Pulse Damage: 25/45/65/85/105 (+20% of your Physical Power)
Pulse Slow: 20%
Gungnir Damage: 80/130/180/230/280 (+60% of your Physical Power)
Attack Speed: 30%
Stun Duration: 1.2s
Cooldown: 12s
Mana Cost: 70/75/80/85/90
Ring of Spears
This ability has been reworked.
Odin summons a wall of spears that blocks his enemies movement. Enemies inside the ring cannot heal. Odin is immune to Slow and Root effects while in his Ring. A portion of the wall can be destroyed when hit by 5 Basic Attacks. Enemies that leave the ring through or over a wall are chased by Gungnir, taking damage and becoming slowed for 2.5s. Enemies that die inside Ring of Spears grant Odin a permanent bonus to Physical Power.
Damage: 140/210/280/350/420 (+75% of your Physical Power)
Counters are important for SMITE, but they shouldn't feel un-winnable; just strong. Odin's Ring of Spears previously counters a wide array of potential enemy compositions in ways that were difficult to fight back against. By opening up some options the frustration players faced against Odin fell, but so did his performance. We want to give The Allfather more options to do besides dropping his ultimate. Raven Shout serves a dual purpose of offense and defence, and with a cooldown to now match Lunge Odin will be a more consistent frontline for his team and a threat for the enemy backline. Odin, especially in modes centered around teamfighting, is a powerhouse. Not only is his ultimate a strong lockdown but it applies a powerful anti-heal and attack speed slow, really limiting enemies options to counterplay being locked in a cage while a team throws all their abilities into it. The Attack Speed slow is especially punishing when it comes to trying to fight back and we feel it really pushes this ability over the top.
Odin hard counters a huge amount of the roster. We want people to be able to fight him in his cage, and we also want cage to feel meaningful to rank up. This change is more of a shift than a buff or nerf, intended to keep Odin in a similar spot as now, but with more counterplay around his ultimate ability.
Ring of Spears
This ability no longer applies an attack speed slow to enemies in its area.
Odin is another character we wanted to address as we head towards SWC, as both his casual performance and his impact at the highest end of play are both above the curve. Ring of Spears is seeing a slight decrease to duration, lowering the amount of time he is keeping players locked down and debuffed in a teamfight.
In this patch we are adjusting three Warriors: Odin, Ravana, and Sun Wukong. These gods have been overperforming and have limited the diversity of picks within the Solo and Jungle roles. Odin and Ravana were specifically looked at for their strong performance in the Jungle role. All three of these warriors are getting reduced Movement Speed which will impact their ability to play Jungle and will slow down their rotations. They are also receiving specific targeted adjustments to their overall power. Path to Valhalla allows Odin to gain a large burst of speed and power, even if he is not involved in a fight at that moment. This combined with his high burst potential from an undamaged bird bomb allows him to quickly turn fights. We are reducing the Movement Speed given from Path to Valhalla to limit his ability to rotate to and escape from fights and we are bringing down the absolute top-end damage of Raven Shout to limit how much he can swing a fight in his favor.
Decreased Base Movement Speed from 375 to 370.
Path to Valhalla
Decreased Movement Speed per stack from 8% to 4%.
Raven Shout
Decreased Full Shield Bonus Damage from 25% to 15%.
In recent patches, we have been making adjustments to warriors to increase diversity in the Solo lane and shore up any weaker picks. Gugnir's Might was a clear candidate for some love. While not as devastating as his “Bird Bomb” combo, Odin will now have some more utility and damage to be less of a one trick pony.
Gungnir's Might
Increased Base Damage from 35/50/65/80/95 -> 45/65/85/105/125.
Odin's Ring of Spears, Serqet's Last Breath, and Osiris' Lord of the Afterlife are ultimate level abilities that were intended to prevent all healing, but functioned in different ways and had conflicting descriptions. All three abilities stated they reduced ALL healing in their description text but both also said they reduced healing by 100%, which are different effects.[?]
To add to the confusion, Ring of Spears was properly preventing all healing but Serqet's Last Breath and Osiris' Lord of the Afterlife were only reducing it by 100%. We have updated these abilities to now reduce ALL healing and their descriptions have been updated to reflect this.
Ring of Spears
Updated the description to make it clear this Ability prevents all Healing.
Odin's new Passive fits his lore very well and gives him a unique killstreak play style. This ability triggers from the deaths of allied and enemy gods anywhere on the map, so Odin will be powering up anytime a fight is unfolding. His old Passive still exists as part of his Ultimate, rewarding players for confirming kills inside the Ring of Spears.
New Passive – Path to Valhalla
Whenever any god dies on the battleground, Odin gains 8% movement speed and 8% power for 8s. This buff can stack up to five times.
Ring of Spears
Odin gains permanent stacks of +5 Attack Power for each enemy god that dies inside the ring.
Odin has been performing quite well with the changes introduced in Season 3. We are increasing the Cooldown on Ring of Spears to 75 seconds to give players more time to play around when this skill is down, and limit how often he can cast it in a given game. We are going to keep a close eye on this change in conjunction with others, and may revisit Odin as needed.
Odin has had part of his kit redesigned, to help him better fulfill his role as a Warrior. Many of his base stats have been adjusted (visit Odin's page to check it out).
Lunge
Base damage reduced from 140/180/220/260/300 to 120/165/210/255/300.
Physical damage scaling increased from 40% to 60%.
Fixed a bug where the explosion FX on landing sometimes wouldn't play.
Ring of Spears
Odin is now immune to slow and root effects while in his Ring.
Odin's basic attacks now use a hit progression with a 1/1/1/1.5x timing and damage scale
Gungnir's Might
Now hits twice in the same time period, dealing its original damage distributed across both hits. The first hit occurs 0.4s sooner than previously and inflicts the slow, and the second hit does the majority of the damage. Hit damage values are 40/65/90/115/140 (+40% of physical power) and 50/80/110/140/170 (+60% of physical power).
The slow amount was increased from 25% to 30%.
The Cooldown was adjusted from 15/14/13/12/11 to 12 across all ranks
Removed the damage that was done by the ring when standing too close to the spears. Let’s be honest...nobody really knew the rings were doing damage and OP Odin needed a nerf anyways, am I right?!
