Kukulkan continues to slither through his nerfs and maintain sky-high stats. Making whirlwind slightly more reliable has improved his playability massively, and so we have continuously adjusted him. Following up some damage from the last update, we are now focusing on his mobility. Slipstream was regarded as a weak ability for years, but after multiple buffs it is now one of the most versatile movement abilities in the game. We are increasing the cooldown and decreasing the slow immunity window to give opponents a better chance at catching this slippery god.
Slipstream
Increased Cooldown from 15/14/13/12/11s to 15s at all ranks
Kukulkan has really stormed into play, becoming a serious top level pick and succeeding across the game. The changes to his base stats and Whirlwind helped him be more impactful, and after a partial revert on Whirlwind this ability is in a solid spot. Rather than fully reverting him we are targeting other aspects like his Passive that contributes heavily to his damage output, and his ultimate cooldown which enables objective secure.
The winds of change have been kind to Kukulkan for the last half of the Season. Whirlwind and Zephyr provide strong damage and control, allowing for safe and effective poke that serves as a strong setup. We are bringing these aspects back to ensure we don’t put Kukulkan back to an underwhelming position while bringing his current power more into check.
Zephyr
Decreased Slow 30/35/40/45/50% from 20/25/30/35/40%
Whirlwind
Decreased Damage per tick from 9/18/27/36/45 to 8/16/24/32/40
A mighty storm indeed. After his recent buffs Kukulkan's metrics skyrocketed to be pretty clearly the winningest god in all of SMITE, across all game modes and skill levels. These buffs overperformed our expectations, so we are toning him back down slightly. Both of these changes target the exact same things we buffed, and partially revert them. This should put Kukulkan is a nice spot in between these two balance points. Olympians pathnotes.png
Whirlwind
Partial revert on Whirlwind application time.
Increased refresh/application time from 0.25s to 0.35s.
Partial revert on Whirlwind damage.
Decreased Damage per tick from 10/20/30/40/50 to 9/18/27/36/45.
Kukulkan is one of the most beloved gods in SMITE, but he rarely ventures into more competitive play. Kukulkan often feels excessively slow and squishy those base stats are being increased. His Whirlwind often feels sluggish or confusing as to when it will actually apply to enemies, so that process is being sped up and having an initial hit applied to make it more impactful.
Increased Base Health from 365 to 380.
Increased Health per level from 68 to 75.
Increased Movement Speed from 355 to 360.
Whirlwind
Increased the rate at which Whirlwind attempts to apply or refresh the damaging effect on a player in the area from every .5s to every .25s.
This means from initial cast, it will now take 1.75s for a player to be hit by a Whirlwind dot, down from 2s.
It will also more quickly refresh, increasing the chances the enemy will take additional ticks after leaving the area.
Whirlwind now deals one additional tick of damage when first applied to an enemy.
Kukulkan has struggled to really make an impact in high level play. Slipstream is getting a major boost in speed in early ranks, helping him outposition his enemies. Spirit of the Nine Winds is also seeing a cooldown reduction. This powerful ability is well telegraphed and we feel bringing this to a fight more often is a solid strength Kukulkan can bring to a team.
Slipstream
Increased movement speed from 40/50/60/70/80% to 60/65/70/75/80%.
Kukulkan had the opposite situation to Izanami. Whirlwind was an ability you wanted to max as early as possible. At 110 Mana cost, this would often be maxed before a high mana or MP5 item could be built. This limited what Kukulkan could do in the early to mid game so we are reducing it to 90 mana at it's max rank.
Whirlwind
Decreased Mana Cost from 70/80/90/100/110 -> 70/75/80/85/90.
Kukulkan's Slipstream is an ability we often receive feedback on. Overall, players felt like the ability had too high mana cost and was not effective enough. Slipstream now provides a lot more movement speed up front and then gets weaker over the 4 second duration. This allows the slippery serpent to react more quickly to enemy aggression. Additionally, this ability has a reduced Mana Cost which will encourage Kukulkan players to use it in the early game more often.
Slipstream
How this ability provides its Movement Speed has changed.
Increased Slipstreams Movement Speed from 20/25/30/35/40% -> 40/50/60/70/80%, but the movement speed now decays over the duration of the skill.
Reduced mana cost from 85 at all ranks -> 65 at all ranks.
Kukulkan excels when he is able to maintain proper spacing between himself and enemies, especially towards the late game. By reducing Slipstreams cooldown per rank Kukulkan will more often have one of his spacing tools available to him.
Kukulkan is getting some much needed love this patch! We're adjusting the mana cost on Whirlwind (a big community request) securing Kukulkan's position as the king of clear, and also improving the scaling and late game potential from Zephyr.
Zephyr
Increased magical power scaling from 60% -> 75%.
Whirlwind
Reduced mana cost from 70/90/110/130/150 -> 70/80/90/100/110.
Ao Kuang has been artistically reworked into the Mayan god Kukulkan. Kukulkan has a new model, new animations, a new voice pack, and new special FX. His base kit and ability design has remained unchanged.
Audio levels have been improved.
